GT Sport: FIA Nation’s Cup Round 6
With the tracks in Belgium still either not open or under special “non one-on-one coaching rules applied” here i am trying to get some driving time and train lines and pace. On the simulator.
Sounds funny? I kid you not, it isn’t!
Gran Turismo Sport is hosting a series of races called FIA Nation’s Cup and for Round 6 the selected track was the Nurburgring GP.
What the heck, i thought i should give it a try even though i know i am not super competitive against other high level players that have some serious play time in their resume!
And so i did!
Forever romantic me, i thought i would disregard the cars that other “fast” people were choosing and i went for a Viper GTS GR.4! Took me less than a lap to realise that although it could power out nice and early out of a corner, it pretty much wasn’t going anywhere in the straights.
First race was horrific with something like P15th at the end.
Still, that didn’t put me off as my pace and knowledge of the track was showing potential.
Subaru WRX GR.4 it is for this race then and i manage a P3 in the qualification! Things looked promising and the race starts with a great launch out of the line and a pass on P1 just after the first corner.
Soft tires to start the race just to widen that gap as much as possible and get some safety distance when i would pit to change to mediums.
Long story short, that race was a win as both the pace and the focus were there.
With the result leaving a nice after taste i thought i would participate in the next race for the day, just to see how well i would be able to manage again the next better set of opponents.
Well guess what! P1 in quali – P1 in the race! Not bad eh?!
Still had some time left and now i was even more curious to see how long all this good luck and worse skilled opponents would continue for!
Entry to another race miraculously bring another P1 for quali and P1 after the end of the race.
Same strategy, same pace, same lap-times.
To sum it up…
Simulators are the next best thing to reality and although not quite there yet in terms of speed and g-force sensation they can still offer quite a lot of useful information regarding input techniques, cornering speeds, braking points and hell even give you a good adrenaline rush if you enter a decent race.
I know all these have been said and written many times already and surely in more depth i could ever reach but if you are up for a good clean race or even driving/track discussion then feel free to add me on PSN by looking me up as K_Zannos.
