With 2 different layouts (depending on the event) the length varies between 4.574mt and 3.737mt km per lap.
What started as a 12.045mt long track during the 30’s, has seen 6 renovations and changes (not mentioning all the in between chicane and corner alterations) in its layout since then, keeping it still alive and up with the latest FIA safety rules.
As opposed to many other European racetracks, Hockenheimring isn’t famous for its elevation changes but is still a challenging track to drive.
Exactly because it is level and because the horizon doesn’t help with “clearing” your point of view (too busy of a background in most places, especially inside the Motodrom) there are corners which are quite challenging as they are high speed and early commitment is needed in order to gain that advantage in laptime.
